“La Femme paysage”
Taking inspiration from the epic work of Sonia Delauney, Spijkers en Spijkers direct their Spring Summer 2013 collection in a colourfull and modern take on their classic 1920’s inspired style.
“La femme paysage” shows a geometric approach on the female body. Viewed from different angles and distances a landschape may look like a geometric puzzle or can be perceived as a romantic image. Both these perceptions of reality are captured in the Spring/Summer collection.
“If there are geometric forms, it is because these simple and manageable elements have appeared suitable for the distribution of colors whose relations constitute the real object of our search, but these geometric forms do not characterize our art. The distribution of colors can be effected as well with complex forms, such as flowers, etc. … only the handling of these would be a little more delicate.” Sonia Delauney spoke at the Sorbonne, in 1927.
This quote of Delauney captures the total of this Spring Summer collection. Which shows bold geometic patterns besides delicate and poetic details. The papery honan silk which is used in the line-up brings us close to the many colourful scketches and designs of Delauney and adds a romantic feel to the bold geometric patterns. The colour pallet moves form slightly faded primary colours to a larger veriety of colours and ends in a pallet of dark colours for the night. Laces with different flower forms are enriched with a layer of primary colours or a touch of shimmerwith a silver and ivory underlay.
Marchesa Luisa Casati is the muse Spijkers en Spijkers had in mind when they created this collection. Her image is printed as a double portrait on silk twill and processed into long straight dresses and skirts. It is her spirit gives this collection a romantic and poetic touch.
