The Autumn/Winter 15/16 collection is titled MetamorphoSIS. The name refers to The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the absurdist novella in which the protagonist, Gregor Samsa, awakens one morning transformed into a gigantic insect. The story explores how he and those around him respond to this bizarre transformation and attempt to adapt to the new reality.
A similar metamorphosis occurs to young Erik in Erik of het klein insectenboek, when he enters a painting and suddenly finds himself among life-sized insects. Inspired by these remarkable narratives, Spijkers en Spijkers transports us into a world of electronic frames and robotic insects — Het Klein Insectenboek 2.0.
Unlike previous collections, the AW15/16 SIS show opens with a series of outfits executed entirely in black and white. The twin designers employ both large and small check patterns, referring to the imaginary frames that shape our existence. Comfortable circle skirts and three-quarter-length trousers are paired with soft mohair sweaters and cardigans.The label’s signature bright graphic shapes and exceptional use of colour are, of course, still present this season. Playful prints of robotic insects come together in a refined and balanced composition. Dresses crafted from ultra-soft Japanese crêpe, wool, and silk combine elegance with comfort. For eveningwear, the collection features colourful Japanese crêpe dresses adorned with graphic insect motifs reminiscent of the modernist aesthetic of De Stijl.
