Bonnie and Clyde
With this Autumn/Winter 2012 SiS collection Spijkers en Spijkers take us on an adventurous journey through the 1930s. Inspired by the story of Bonnie and Clyde, the duo that ruled the American mid-west with their by passion and altruism driven deeds. Because the two mainly focused on the banks and spared the smaller tradesmen, they acquired a certain kind of heroism. They created their own myth by proudly informing the press about their actions and they even sent messages with photos and poems to the media. A passionate tale of two lovers that with all means tried to escape from the hopeless existence of the crisis-years.
The inspiration that Spijkers en Spijkers drew from the stories about the “heroine” Bonnie, reflects both the strength and elegance of every modern woman. In 1967, a movie was made of the story of Bonnie and Clyde starring Faye Dunaway as Bonnie; a beautiful style icon and muse for this collection.
The designs in this collection are feminine and elegant, but also have a casual, boyish cut. Slouchy trousers and jackets, fine knits with contrasting collars and cuffs, are put in contrast with chunky cardigans in cardigan stitch and firm baby-cord jeans and jackets.
The dresses are divided into large colored pieces, which refer to an Art-deco design, cute shaped collars are playing an exciting game with bold v-necklines. The overall picture of this collection has a clear reference to the elegance of the 1930s, but at the same time a reflection of the current era.
The collection consists of two color groups: a pallet of rose, reds and bordeaux and a pallet of bright blues, navy and black. The different colors can stand alone, but are also beautifully to mix or to combine with the grey-melange tones in the collection. For each color group a matching design has been developed: an Art-deco design of graphic patterns with SiS branding. Besides these prints there is also a blacks square pattern design that, if you look closely, is composed of little guns.
The fabrics and knitwear are winters and comfortable such as wool blends, wool honeycomb and baby cord, but there are also dresses and tops made of light crepe de Chine in beautiful warm tones, so the whole has a light feel.
